The Nola Quilt

Hi Quilty friends! I wanted to talk a little more about the Nola Quilt and share additional photos from some of my pattern testers!

I am absolutely thrilled to announce the release of my very first quilt pattern! It's been a journey of almost a year to bring this vision to life, and now it's finally here!

Naming this quilt The Nola Quilt holds immense significance for me as it pays tribute to someone very dear to my heart. My great aunt, Nola, was the driving force behind my journey into quilting four years ago. Her unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in shaping me into the quilter I am today.

I'm also incredibly grateful to my Pattern Testers for their invaluable assistance throughout this process! Their feedback was instrumental, and I'm truly touched by their kindness and support, especially considering this was my first venture into pattern writing.

When I initially designed this quilt, I envisioned it as more of a solid quilt. However, after seeing the fabric selection from Ashley @Qrazyaboutquilting, which featured the CUTEST prints, it truly brought the design together! It completely changed my perspective on what this pattern could become, and I'm excited to create another Nola quilt, using prints this time!

I meanā€¦ COME ON! How cute are these prints?

Yet another adorable Nola Quilt featuring prints is this vibrant and stunning pinky-orange creation by Emily @made.with.love.by.em. I love how the darker green accentuates the vibrant orange and pink hues, making them truly stand out!

Sherri @Shellish made this gorgeous monochromatic Nola Quilt with the most beautiful backing and it truly looks like it was made for this quilt! She also long armed the quilt herself & donā€™t you just love this panto?

Creating this pattern was so fun, and I'm excited for what's next! Coming soon, I'll be adding more quilt patterns inspired by family names to my heritage series.

An Introduction to Sewannity

Hey there, lovely people! It's Makenzie, creative mind Sewannity. Pull up a chair and let me share with you the story of how this wonderful journey began.

Picture this: I'm just a little girl, about six or seven years old, diving headfirst into the world of sewing with my incredible Mamaw Ann by my side. Together, we embarked on sewing adventures, stitching up everything from cute pillowcases to adorable aprons, and even some snugly pajama pants (which, fun fact, I still rock every now and then!). But it wasn't until I hit the ripe old age of 21, right smack dab in the middle of the Covid-19 chaos, that I truly rediscovered my passion for sewing.

With lockdown looming and plenty of time on my hands, I turned to quilting, enlisting the help of my wise and wonderful great aunt Nola to guide me through the process. Armed with colorful fabrics and a whole lot of determination, I whipped up my very first quilt top in just three days. And let me tell you, once I started, there was no stopping meā€”I ended up making 30 quilts that summer!

Each stitch felt like a little nod to my Mamaw, a gentle reminder of the joy and comfort sewing brings into my life. As the years passed, I continued to hone my craft, learning and growing with each quilt I lovingly stitched together.

Fast forward to 2023, and I found myself itching to try something new. Despite being armed with patterns from the pros, I felt a burning desire to create something uniquely my own. So, I took the plunge and enrolled in a pattern writing course. Now, let me tell you, it wasn't all smooth sailingā€”life had a funny way of throwing curveballs my wayā€”but I persevered. And when I finally completed that course, I felt more motivated and inspired than ever before.

And thus, Sewannity was born. But let's talk about the name, shall we? Sewannityā€”it's a quirky little mashup of "sew" and "sanity," with an extra "n" thrown in as a loving tribute to my dear Mamaw Ann. Though she may no longer be with us in the physical sense, her spirit lives on in every single stitch I make.

Creating Sewannity isn't just about sewing for me; it's about sharing my passion and spreading a little joy through the art of quilting. It's a journey of learning, growing, and connecting with others, one stitch at a time. So, come on, folks, join me as we embark on this wonderful adventure together! And hey, if you're ever curious about the story behind a certain pattern or design, just askā€”I've got plenty of tales to share!
